Taking the “French” out of French Toast

French toast is a great choice for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It provides proteins and grains and can be served in numerous different ways, which offers you a wide range of options to choose from. Smothered in syrup or topped with fruit, you can literally top your French toast with basically ANYTHING. Additionally, it is a fantastic way to feed the young’uns plus its easy (and economical) to make.

French-French Toast: The French are known for being very finicky with their food choices and anything that carries the “French” label. Because of this, I’m going to keep the French-French Toast version totally traditional; smothered with tons of REAL butter and syrup. It won’t be good for your cholesterol levels, but it will surely excite your taste buds.Italian-French Toast: What’s Italy without the humble Margarita Pizza? This is why I decided to use tomato, mozzarella and basil for our Italian F-toast option. Simply prepare your F-toast, spread a thin layer of tomato sauce, add sliced tomato and torn mozzarella cheese and pop it in a hot oven (220 Celsius) until the cheese melts. Once out of the oven, just add some freshly torn basil and enjoy!
Mexican-French Toast: This recipe is probably best suited for a lunch or dinner, because spicy food in the morning is never pleasant and you should know by now that when someone mentions Mexican food – IT’S GONNA BURN! This recipe is very healthy and fresh, since nothing except the F-toast is cooked. All you need to do is chop a whole tomato, half an onion, half a chilli (seeds removed) into small dices. Add the aforementioned ingredients together and season to make a simple salsa. Peel and mash an avocado with some lemon juice for an easy guacamole. Then simply assemble it on your F-toast in whichever way that suits you best.
American-French Toast: The following recipe is for all you sweet-toothed people out there. Everyone knows that the US has the most morbidly obese people in the universe; therefore you should know that this recipe is not going to be a healthy one. Also dubbed the “Sunday of French Toast Recipes” – it contains sliced banana, peanut-butter, whipped cream, ice- cream and some chocolate syrup. It’s quite simple – prepare your F-toast, spread some peanut-butter, add the slices of banana, then add the ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate syrup as you like. Now, go and clog your arteries! HIGH-FIVE!
South African-French Toast: South African is a nation famous for its type of BBQ, called “Braai”. One of the favourite items to braai is a style of sausage called “boere wors” – which roughly translates to “farmer’s sausage”. The great thing about “boere wors” is that it doesn’t necessarily have to be cooked over a fire. One can also cook it on the stove, in a pan. The recipe only needs one other element: Smoor sous. Smoor sous (smothering sauce) are made by simply cooking equal parts of onion and tomato together until it resembles a sauce. To assemble the dish, cut the cooked sausage into halves and arrange it on the F-toast. Then simply pour over the Smoor sous and try not to swallow your whole face!
French toast is a well-known breakfast food and can be good for any meal of the day. Served with fresh fruit and whatever, and you’ll have a well-balanced meal. Have fun with your French toast and try something new today!{March 30, 2012}

I would like to share another French toast recipe – I believe it will add some value to the article above.
Well…I call my recipe Fruity-French-Toast: It comprises of French-toast, sliced strawberry, banana, plain Bulgarian yogurt and a touch of honey. I simply add my sliced fruit onto my French toast. Then I add a tablespoon of honey to my yogurt and spoon some of this sweetened yogurt over my fruit and toast.
I make it for myself a few times a week and it is healthy and DELICIOUS!
